| Tabanan Area
Tabanan is
Bali's rice basket - the most fertile rice-growing area of
Bali, with some of the best views to be found of terraced
rice fields. There are hundreds of small altars to Dewi Sri,
the Goddess of rice, dotting the emerald landscape. This is
a great place to go for a morning run along the ridges and
riverbeds. Visit the Subak Museum and you can learn all
about how this staple crop is grown and the important
religious and social role it plays in Balinese
culture.
Not far away is
the Pura Taman Ayun, one of Bali's most beautiful and
well-designed temple complexes surrounded by a wide moat.
The aroma of jasmine flowers seems to pervade the place.
Visit during the temple anniversary ceremony and be treated
to an endless display of traditional offerings and
pageantry. Be sure to bring a sarong and sash if you want to
enter the temple's split gates.
Waka
Gangga
The
natural rejuvenating energies of the Indian Ocean surf, the gently sloping
rice terraces and the invigorating sea air make Waka Gangga a sanctum for a complete,
get away from it all holiday. Restful quiet, superb for and total
comfort.
