Jayapura makes a comfortable and convenient base from which to explore the attractions of the surrounding area. Close by are a number of excellent beaches and diving spots, where visitors can see stunning coral reefs and a fascinating variety of tropical marine life.

Lake Sentani is also well worth a visit, for its clear blue waters and fascinating villages where travelers will receive a warm welcome by the local indigenous inhabitants.
