the north coast of the province. It offers its guests modest
but decent accommodations, including a three star hotel
with swimming pool, and good travelers’ facilities, including
banking, telecommunications, and basic medical services.
Palu’s restaurants serve tempting local specialties, including

For
an introduction to Central Sulawesi’s culture, visitors
can view the exhibits and performances at the provincial
museum, or check out the range of colorful crafts available
in the local markets. Not far from Palu is the town of Donggalo,
renowned for having some of the best beaches in the province,
as well as spectacular snorkeling and diving off unspoiled
coral reefs.
Palu is also a good base from which to launch an exploration
through Lore Lindu National Park, a 250,000 hectare expanse
of untouched forest teeming with exotic wildlife, including
gigantic jewel-toned butterflies. The park also attracts
people with its prehistoric stone statues, and the colorful
customs and costumes of the indigenous people who inhabit
its interior.
