Southeast
Sulawesi is Sulawesi’s most unspoiled province, bordered
by white sand beaches, covered with thick forests of teak
and ironwood, and dotted with clear running rivers and
spectacular waterfalls. Southeast Sulawesi’s National Park
includes a wetlands preserve and two large lakes, and is
home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including
primates, deer, and rare species of lizard. Culturally, the
province is diverse and colorful, with five separate ethnic
groups, each practicing their own traditional customs,
inhabiting its land.
The province’s
capital, Kendari, is a tranquil town which boasts a
beautiful variety of locally produced handicrafts and hosts
frequent cultural festivals, giving visitors the opportunity
to share and enjoy. Raha, the main town on Muna Island,
tempts travelers with its caves painted with prehistoric
pictures, its gorgeous green lagoons and unique ceremonial
traditions. For the traveler willing to leave the beaten
track, Southeast Sulawesi offers a rich wealth of
unforgettable experience.
